THE JOURNEY BEGINS: With a fleet of pickups, a vintage Dodge, and a couple of El Caminos already in their collection, the Erasmus duo set their sights on a new project—a coupe. Their search led them to a car in George, which they purchased based solely on photos. The goal? To create an everyday drivable restomod masterpiece.

BODYWORK PERFECTION: The Chevy arrived at Steel Road in need of some TLC. Despite a recent restoration, it was clear that the job wasn't up to par. Minimal rust was discovered, prompting Steel Road to strip the car down to its bare metal. Over the course of six months, the team performed a top chop, widened the rear fenders, seamless fender work, and added custom valances and grill bars. The body was then painted in a stunning blend of "brandy-wine" and "antique-silver" colors, creating a truly unique finish.

SUSPENSION AND CHASSIS UPGRADES To ensure a smooth ride, the original chassis was slightly modified to accommodate Jaguar XJS front and rear suspensions. This upgrade not only provided all-around disc brakes and power steering but also an independent suspension and a limited-slip differential. The XJS diff ratio was chosen for its cruising capabilities, making this Chevy a joy to drive on any road.

POWER AND PERFORMANCE: Under the hood lies a 400 CI Chevy small block, bored 30 thou and equipped with Keith Black flat-top pistons, Dart Sportsman 2 cast iron heads, and a host of other performance upgrades. Producing approximately 300 hp, this engine is mated to a fully overhauled Turbo 350 gearbox with a shift kit for crisp gear changes. An MSD bolt-on fuel injection system is set to further enhance performance.

INTERIOR LUXURY: Inside, the Chevy features a custom interior by A.A.W. Upholstery, complete with hoodliner, door panels, and carpets. The front and rear seats are from a short-wheelbase Pajero, providing a perfect fit. A retro radio was imported to maintain the original dash look, while a custom center console and wood trim from Mozambique add a touch of elegance.

FINAL TOUCHES: Various parts, including the steering column, gauges, and exhaust components, were imported from Wayne's World to complete the restoration. Standard steel Jaguar rims were widened to accommodate BF Goodrich tires, giving the Chevy a unique stance. LED headlights and tail lights, along with a custom-built 80L fuel tank, further enhance the car's modern features.

A LABOR OF LOVE: After four and a half years of hard work and dedication, the Chevy Stylemaster restoration is complete. Dr. P.J. Erasmus and J.J. Erasmus can now enjoy their one-of-a-kind restomod, a true testament to their passion for classic cars and meticulous attention to detail.
